I'm a self-taught artist. I began painting in oils around the age of ten. Although I describe myself as a surrealist, mostly for lack of a better definition, my work doesn't seem to fit completely into any particular genre. My images sometimes lean towards Visionary but often have more of an "edge" than most art in this category. The paintings I create have no meaning in a rational context. They are derived from the intuitive and are more an emotive than intellectual expression ranging from eroticism to whimsy and the macabre to the sublime. I agree with Magritte that an artist's work should "evoke a sense of mystery" and feel that the best advice ever given to an artist was impresario Sergei Diaghilev's command to Jean Cocteau "Astonish Me"
