I am trying to produce with my Dream Matter pieces:
(1) An image that will cause the mind to work in the same manner it does while trying to remember a faintly remembered dream.
(2) An image that will always be in flux...an endless visual experience. I render a substance I have entitled Dream Matter.. it is empty of known imagery until the viewer looks upon it and the mind begins to search for images and meaning.. this in turn will cause the viewer to have an endless visual and mental experience no matter how many times they look upon it.
(3) There is a concept to my work.....and there is no concept to my work. The concept I write about is only "my" experience of it... I do not wish to force the viewer to see Dream Matter in the same way I do...I want the viewer's experience to be free from a preconceived idea.
(4) I try with my work to allow a spontaneous organic growth pattern to emerge connecting the fabric of reality to the workings of the mind to emerge for a free form artisic evolution .

Images born in that fleeting moment between reality and the sanctuary of sleep. Infused with images from the subconscious, music, religion and passing encounters of everyday existance.

At the early age of 5, Juan David Arenas began expressing his thoughts about every day life in an exceptional way; illustrating all he experienced on to paper, walls, and anything he could get his hands on. Realizing this approach towards his surroundings, he began investigating about Art as he grew. And educating himself into using different means of expression, in order to reach the people around him and the world with this unique scheme of things. With this aspiration to become an artist, he went further and institutionalized this vision, after studying courses in various art schools in his native country, Colombia. He began to develop a meticulous style. Very detailed, of vibrant juxtaposed shapes, which ’melt’ in time, almost reminiscent of Dali, which in term, define his creativity and personality. At the age of 13, he traveled with his family to the U.S. for the chance to a better education and an opportunity to become one of the new painters. After studying many methods, old te

Beginning in the early 70's, I drew largely on my subconscious reactions to the events forming my life. I gradually began to assemble a large selection of iconic images and figures representing the early stages of my childhood as an often transient army dependent. As would be the case throughout my life, I was always keen to recognize the dualities in my life, and would often try to reflect them in my work. Although many seem to see a lot of melancholy in some of this, it is what it is without too much heavy, deep penetrating analysis.
